MSNBC, CNN, and even market leader Fox News lost viewers in 2010

U.S. cable news television network MSNBC has ended its contract with its top liberal anchor, Keith Olbermann, the network said on Friday.

Having beaten MSNBC and CNN in the ratings, the network hopes to pitch itself against mainstream cable networks -- and convince media buyers cable news isn't a downscale ad buy and that its audience consists of more than Republican retirees.

NBC newsman Brian Williams said Wednesday he's not sure if Walter Cronkite would have succeeded in the age of cable news, blogs and Twitter.

There's 2 distinct parts to a cable day, daytime is more focused on crime/disaster where nighttime increasingly is more about topics that spark controversy and suit the particular audience that tunes in.
